The Peace Circle in early autumn — a living space shaped by values, now mirrored digitally to invite reflection and action anywhere.

Peace Circle is, in many ways, a personal circle I’ve walked throughout my professional life. In education, sustainability, and value-based pedagogy, I’ve searched for ways to connect learning with meaning and peace with action. Over time, I began to see peace not only as the absence of conflict, but as a way of being — a space we can share and grow in every day. This led me to ask: How can we live our values — not just name them? Peace Circle is the answer that emerged, and the invitation is open for all of us to explore together.

We speak of values more than ever — in strategies, mission statements, and educational goals. Words like empathy, respect and responsibility echo across institutions. But in daily practice, these values often disappear under the weight of deadlines, performance metrics, and structural habits.

We live in a world that celebrates values, but rarely slows down to live them.

When Systems Silence the Human

In schools, empathy is taught — but not always practiced. In workplaces, collaboration is encouraged — but competition is rewarded. In communities, inclusion is promoted — but spaces for true connection are shrinking.

This isn’t because people don’t care. It’s because structures often override intentions. Speed, control, and output take priority, while presence, reflection and care are left behind.

And in that quiet erosion, something deeper is lost — what some might call civility, and what in Finnish we call sivistys.

Remembering Sivistys

Sivistys is a Finnish word with no direct translation. It goes beyond education or knowledge — it means the deep ethical and cultural growth of a person. To live with awareness. To take responsibility. To grow as a human being among others.

It is not about knowing more, but about becoming more human — through reflection, connection, and care.

In a culture obsessed with results, sivistys is at risk of being forgotten. But it isn’t gone. It only needs space to breathe again.

A Space Where Values Breathe

Peace Circle is a tested, scalable model — a shared space that brings values to life through reflection, connection, and community. Whether it takes root in a classroom, a workplace, or a forest clearing, it invites meaningful connection — and sparks movement from reflection to action.

At its center stands the Peace Tree, symbolizing our shared aspiration and the interdependence of life. From it extend the paths of Heart, Head, and Hands, guiding us through values like justice, learning, care, and diversity. The surrounding Circle of Guardians honors protectors of peace and nature — including the Everyday Hero, who shapes a better world through quiet, daily actions.

Here, values are embodied — in movement, space, and symbol. Each tree holds a question. Each step invites reflection.

Though rooted in place, each Circle is part of a global network sharing one quiet promise: peace begins in how we live, listen and grow — together.

In a world rushing past what matters, Peace Circle offers not answers, but a beginning. A breath. And perhaps, a seed.

A Digital Twin, A Living Invitation

Peace Circle is more than a moment. It’s also a Digital Twin — a virtual replica of the original Peace Circle in Finland, designed to be explored and experienced online.

Through a 360° drone experience, visitors can move through the space across seasons, discover the meaning of each tree, and reflect on their own values through daily prompts.

The trees invite questions — about nature, climate, biodiversity, and culture — reminding us that values are not only personal, but planetary. Whether you visit in person or online, Peace Circle invites you to slow down, take root — and act with purpose.

A Shift That Spreads

Peace Circle took root in education — but its reach is far wider.

What if workplaces hosted Peace Circles? What if communities, NGOs, and municipalities gathered in spaces where reflection leads to shared understanding — and shared understanding leads to meaningful action? Peace Circle is a ready, easily adoptable park model — a shared space that gently guides cultural transformation. It brings people together not only to pause and reflect, but to co-create and care — to take shared responsibility for maintaining the park, hosting events, and holding space for connection.

It invites collaboration across sectors — education, environment, wellbeing, youth, culture —and connects cities and communities into a growing, global network of peace.

This is not just about building places. It’s about cultivating relationships.A culture where values guide not just what we say, but how we live — together.

Begin Again

We don’t need more content. We need more connection. Spaces where we remember that learning is not just about knowing — but about becoming. Not faster. But deeper. Not louder. But truer.

Peace Circle doesn’t tell us what to do. It invites us to ask:

What kind of human being do I want to be — and how can we grow that, together? If this question resonates with you, let’s explore how Peace Circle could take root in your community.

Reach out — and take part in the quiet revolution of values.
